Do you pass the Turing test?
The Turing test is thought to be the best test to determine whether or not you are a computer or a human. It is simply this: If you try to have a conversation with a machine, can you tell if they’re robot? If you can’t, then they’re human.
More simply, does this look like a person or a robot?
It happens to all of us one in a while.
No matter how much you believe in your content, however many bit.ly links you post, you will still feel a little self conscious about your social media experience. Is it working? Are you contributing to the community or just being a robot?
Like all good relationships, a communication circuit is necessary for the betterment of all parties. A communications circuit is quite simple: Person A talks to Person B – Person B processes it and talks back to Person A – the circuit is complete.
If one person dominates the conversation, the circuit is broken and what you have left is a person talking to a sea of nothingness in an ocean of more nothingness. But more importantly, if you don’t have a circuit, you don’t have a feedback mechanism. When all you do is talk with no one contributing, you become a machine – created just to tweet and nothing else.
Here’s 3 ways to break free from being a social media bot and build better social media image:
Drop the Script
What are you passionate about? The new iPhone? Fake BP twitter accounts? Go to your social media resource of choice and type it in the search, then talk to someone. Be honest and be sincere, people will know if you just want them to check out your blog or add them as your friend.
Help Someone
Go on Twitter and just type in the word “help” with an area of expertise (say wordpress) and see if you can help someone! Be a contributor to the community! Crowd sourced sites such as www.stackoverflow.com and others are thriving because they immediate build a community of mutual assistance. Go on there and make someone’s day.
Live Like Everyday Was Friday
The infamous #ff tag on Twitter is for “follow Friday”, where users recommend people to follow on Friday and help users gain followers and also give other people quality microblogs to subscribe to. Never hesitate to give credit where credit is due! Don’t wait til Friday if you see a great twitter account, share your find with your followers and make the community a better place!
