In Pursuit of Excellence – Meet our Newest Superstar

This past month, AIM was excited to welcome Nikki Yorgiadis to the team! With her passion for seeking new affiliate relationships and digging into social media marketing trends, Nikki is an excellent addition.

Before joining the AIM team, Nikki was a freelance social media consultant, working with Public Relations agencies and Real Estate firms. However, what truly makes Nikki stand out is her athletic career as a top performing figure skater. With her remarkable skills, Nikki qualified to compete at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games and one of her proudest moments was being the final torchbearer at the Handover Ceremony in Athens, Greece. It’s this impressive background that shows exceptional ambition and determination, leadership, and adventurous qualities that are such a key part to the talent and A-players at AIM.

Read on to learn a little more about our newest superstar!

Question: You are a new addition to the crayon box. What colour would you be and why?

Nikki:  Oh there are so many options but as my crayon alter-ego I would absolutely love to be any metallic colour so that I would constantly be sparkly and bedazzled!

Question: If you were a super hero (and we know you are), what would your super power be and what can we call you?

Nikki: My superhero power would definitely be teleportation! I absolutely love traveling and having the power to immediately transport to anywhere of my choosing would be magical. Not only would I get to experience everything on my bucket list, but there would be opportunities to visit my friends and family that live abroad. I feel that teleportation would enable endless opportunities. I also have a passion for protecting the environment/wildlife and I would use my superpower to spend some weekends dedicating time to foundations around the world that I otherwise would never have the opportunity to help. As for a superhero name, maybe let’s just stick to my name thus far.

Question: Your favorite Inspirational Quote and Why

Nikki:  “Everything happens for a reason” has become my personal mantra and is a quote that I live by. It has really helped me get through some hard times in my life, especially when I found out that I wouldn’t be able to compete at the Olympics.

Another favourite is, “Do not allow people to dim your shine because they are blinded. Tell them to put on some sunglasses cuz we were born this way” – Lady Gaga.

I find this quote applicable in all aspects of everyone’s lives! People shouldn’t be afraid or discouraged to stand out and shine in everything they do, whether it be in their personal lives, careers, or even something they are passionate about.

Question: What could you give a 30-minute presentation about with no advance preparation?

Nikki: Emojis!😊🎉😂😍 My Master’s research topic was on emojis in advertising campaigns and how they are used as a metaphorical tool to discuss taboo subject matter in society. Since they became popular, I’ve always been fascinated in how they are changing the landscape in which we communicate. Some people believe they are becoming a language of their own and others think they are a close resemblance to Egyptian hieroglyphics. Let’s just say, emojis are my expertise! 👌🏼

Question: Tell us about your greatest achievement in your career, so far.

Nikki: Two of my greatest achievements were based around my athletic career. First one was qualifying to compete in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics! The second one that I always have to mention as it was such an honour was being the last torchbearer in Athens during the 2009 Handover Ceremony where the Olympic flame gets officially passed onto Canada to start its journey to the Olympic Games!

Question: What are you reading right now?

Nikki: I’ve started 1984. I generally read fantasy or dystopian novels and I know that 1984 is a definitive novel in the genre and remains culturally contemporary, so I’ve been excited to read that in my spare time.

Question: What is something you want to do in the next year that you’ve never done before?

Nikki: I’ve always wanted to participate in the WWF’s CN Tower Climb for Nature fundraiser. It’s an opportunity to support the World Wildlife Foundation and have a chance to walk all the way up the CN Tower, although I’m unsure if I can handle walking up 1,776 stairs!

Question: What is one of your professional growth goals for 2019?

Nikki: Diving into the analytical-side of marketing, as it’s something I am extremely interested in, but I’ve spent majority of my professional career focusing on communications, research, and creative social media strategies.

Question: What is your favorite thing to do when you are not working?

Nikki: When I’m not working, you’ll either find me skating, horseback riding, watching a TV series, or playing board games with friends
