AIM Spotlight Mark Goco

Marketing Technology, Compliance and Teleportation

Meet Mark Goco…

Stepping into the AIM Spotlight this month, is Mark Goco, our Program Operations Manager and expert in all things Marketing Technology and Compliance Monitoring.

We asked Mark a few questions to learn more about him and here’s what he had to say:

You are a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

Mark: Purple. It’s bright and cheery, but not too loud. It’s fun and unique in a subtle way.

If you were a super hero (and we know you are), what would your super power be and what can we call you?

Mark: I would like to have the power to teleport anywhere in the world at the blink of an eye. With this power, I could go see the world during my lunch breaks. I would be called “Mabilis Mark”.

‘Mabilis’ is Tagalog for ‘moving quickly’ or ‘fast’, representing my cultural background. 😉

Your favorite Inspirational Quote and why?

“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash.” – Bruce Lee

Mark: Life can be unpredictable. If I’m able to fully adopt this quote, I feel that any issue that presents itself will be seen as an opportunity. It’s a mind frame I inspire to incapsulate.

Name one thing about your job that inspires you to keep working at AIM and gets you out of bed in the morning?

Mark: The company culture. AIM was able to cultivate a sense of trust and family that I have never experienced before. There’s a sense of energy, openness, and a willingness to think outside the box. It’s a very refreshing working environment.

How did you become an expert in Marketing Technology and Compliance?

Mark: I have always had a natural curiosity about technology and how things work, or could work. I think that curiosity has fuelled my desire to grow my knowledge in Marketing Technology and Compliance.

Question: Tell us about your greatest achievement in your career, so far.

Mark: My greatest achievement so far was when I solved a logistical challenge that had a large positive impact on productivity and efficiency. At times in your career you just have to trust your gut, trust what you’re seeing in front of you and run with it.

Question: What are the three key Marketing Technology Trends in Affiliate/Performance Marketing in 2018?

1.) Machine Learning – AI will play an increasingly important role in how affiliate marketing programs are managed. It’s a natural fit for optimizing opportunities for affiliate managers, reporting, and communications.

2.) Transparency – The abundance of new technology platforms that are being created will have us seeing a new level of transparency for all stakeholders. Programs up to the task to evolve will benefit the most during this period as stakeholders’ expectations adjust.

3.) Privacy – As the GDPR has outlined in its recent inception, there will be a focus on controlling personal data from all touchpoints. As other countries begin to implement their own solutions, it’ll be the responsibility of every stakeholder to build out a robust database to manage these variables and capitalize on unique opportunities.

Question: What is your biggest professional challenge?

Mark: I would have to say being diagnosed with Dyslexia as a child. I went through many educational hurdles which ultimately helped me understand that I see things a little differently than others. As much as it’s a challenge, it’s also been a blessing. I’ve noticed that my mind has a unique way of processing information which has benefited in my professional career.

Question: What is the one piece of advice you can offer a budding Affiliate Marketing Manager?

Mark: Be strategic and have a method to your madness. If change seems daunting, start with taking the first step, and then the next. Never stop being innovative.

After 10 years in the Transportation and Logistics industry, Mark joined the AIM team. He has a broad background in event marketing and has collaborated on various social media campaigns. Mark’s diligence and organizational skills enable him to be multi-faceted within the company. His passion for marketing lies in data mining and analytics.
